America’s Final Space Shuttle Launch
As of January 15th, the final launch of an American Space Shuttle from
Kennedy Space Center, Florida, is scheduled for September 16th, 2010 at
11:57 AM EDT. Final Launch has been
cancelled till some time in 2011. Watch this site for more information
This launch is subject to delays due to the nature of the event. Weather,
technical problems and other launch parameters may affect the announced
launch. Also this launch may be delayed due to prior launches being
rescheduled.
This marks the conclusion of the Space Shuttle Project. However, budgets and
various funding may possibly permit additional launches. This remains an
“unknown” for the future.
Call Sign
Special Event Call Sign N4S (NASA For Space) has once again been authorized
by the FCC via the courtesy of the ARRL authority. It is authorized for
September 16th thru 30th. If launch delays occur beyond September 30th, we
may be able to extend the authorization.
If not, I’m sure you will still be able to find our activity on 28.283,
21.283, 14.283, 7.183 and 3.883 MHz. These frequencies were selected after
an in-depth analysis of other Special Events and net operations as published
in QST for January, February and March 2010.
Stations
As of this writing, we have not determined how many operators will be
available to simultaneously operate on the announced frequencies above.
Certificate
Certificates only will commemorate your QSO via a SASE. Address to be
provided later. QSL cards will not be available.
History
For America’s First Space Shuttle Launch on April 12,1981 at 7:05 AM, the
Space Center Amateur Radio Society had 8,000 QSOs world-wide. Each QSO was
confirmed by Certificate.
For the 25th Anniversary of America’s Space Shuttle Project, 10 operating
positions were functioning at courtesy of the Florida Space Authority on
Cape Canaveral. This Special Event for N4S was sponsored by the North
Brevard Amateur Radio Club of Mims, Fl. Once again several thousand
Certificates were mailed.
Authorization is hereby granted to distribute the above information via
Amateur Radio web sites, emails and media.
